People’s usage of the ratings system (thumbs up/down). Comparison between Psychology and Religion/Spirituality?
Do you think that there’s a whole lot more people using the ratings down/up button on spiritual natured topics as compared to a scientific based queries?
If so, do you think it implies that people concerned about “spiritual stuffs” tend to be hyper emotional and all stuffs and finds the rating system a viable substitute for gushing our frustration for not agreeing over the same thing- if anything, they are on opposing views. I’m referring to a Religion X ‘debating’ with Religion Y; Religion X arguing/counter arguing with Atheists. And by extent, does this imply that “thumbing” another answerer is some form of output of one’s expression of belief or disbelief when reasoning out is not a viable option?
I need some material to come up with alternative hypothesis regarding the effect of online forums/discussion on people and I hope you can give me some juicy output.
I think it depends on the scientific topic. I’ve seen some where a person responds to an inquiry with a mean or rude remark, and everyone kind of agrees with a thumb down kind of idea. and I have also seen other answers which were just so good that everyone kind of agrees with a thumb up. However, in general, I think that opinion based questions/topics do tend to get more thumbing because people are far more opinionated on things like religion, politics, etc than they are on certain scientific principles (those which do not come into conflict with their religious ideologies). Now in relation to two different religious beliefs, yes, of course people will thumb the religions according to what they think. Most people aren’t particularly open minded when it comes to things which conflict with their core beliefs. So they are more likely, in my opinion, to voice negatively and thumb negatively against things which conflict with their opinions, and voice positively and thumb positively those things which agree with their opinions.
